The Pritzker Architecture Prize is the most prestigious award in architecture, also known as Oscar in field of Architecture. It was founded by Jay and Cindy Pritzker in 1979, To honor a living architect or architects whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision, and commitment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture.

From 1979 to 2020, 43 awards has been awarded to Architect/Architects annually.

1. Zaha Hadid | British Iraqi architect

First female Architect to receive Pritzker prize was Zaha Hadid.

2004 Pritzker Laurate

Female Architects who won Pritzker prize

Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) was the first female Architect to receive Pritzker prize, She was awarded in 2004.

She studied from American University of Beirut and Architectural Association School of Architecture in 1972.

Her Major Projects:

Vitra Fire Station, MAXXI, Bridge Pavilion, Contemporary Arts Center, Heydar Aliyev Centera etc.

2. Kazuyo Sejima | Japanese Architect

Female Architects who won Pritzker prize

Kazuyo Sejima is a Japanese architect. She is known for designs with clean modernist elements such as shiny surfaces, squares and cubes.

She Studied from Japan Women’s University in 1979.

She won pritzker prize with Ryue Nishizawa (born in 1966) in 2010.

Her Major Projects:

Sumida Hokusai Museum, Rolex Learning Center, New Museum etc.

3. Carme Pigem | Spanish Architect

Female Architects who won Pritzker prize Carme Pigem in 2017

Carme Pigem Barcel├│ (born 8 April 1962) is a Spanish architect.

She studied at the School of Fine arts of Olot, and in 1987 graduated in architecture at ETSA Vall├ęs.

She won Pritzker prize with Ramon Vilalta and Rafael Aranda in 2017.

Her Major Projects:

Musee Soulages Rodez, Tossols-Basil Athletics Track (2000) etc.

4. Yvonne Farrell | Irish Architect

2020 Pritzker Laurate

Female Architects who won Pritzker prize Yvonne Farrell in 2020

Yvonne Farrell (born 1951) is an Irish architect.

She studied architecture at University College Dublin.

She won Pritzker prize with Shelley McNamara in 2020.

Her Major Projects (along with Shelley McNamara) :

University Campus UTEC, School of Economics Building at University Luigi Bocconi etc.

5. Shelley McNamara | Irish Architect

2020 Pritzker Laurate

Female Architects who won Pritzker prize Shelley McNamara 2020

Shelley McNamara (born 1952) is an Irish architect.

She studied architecture at University College Dublin.

She won Pritzker prize with Yvonne Farrell in 2020.

Her Major Projects (along with Yvonne Farrell) :

University Campus UTEC, School of Economics Building at University Luigi Bocconi etc.
