IIT Kharagpur Announces Special Ph.D. Fellowship for Top GATE 2026 Rankers
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has introduced a prestigious fellowship program called the Director’s Platinum Jubilee Excellence Ph.D. Fellowship (DPEF) for candidates appearing in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2026.
This fellowship is designed to encourage the top 50 rank holders of GATE 2026 to pursue their Ph.D. at IIT Kharagpur. Students who secure a rank within the top 50 and meet the institute’s Ph.D. admission criteria will be eligible for this highly rewarding opportunity.
Under the DPEF scheme, selected candidates will receive an enhanced monthly fellowship. They will be given ₹80,000 per month during the first two years of their Ph.D. program. After that, the fellowship amount will increase to ₹90,000 per month for the next three years, provided the student continues to meet the academic requirements of the institute.

IIT Kharagpur invites applications from eligible candidates for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme throughout the year. Admission is offered to the Ph.D. Programme in all categories, including Regular with Institute Assistantship, Individual Fellowship (i.e. CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/INSPIRE etc.), Sponsored, and Working Professionals in all disciplines of Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture & Regional Planning, Humanities & Social Sciences, Rural Development, Law, Intersection of Law and Public Policy, Management and Medicine. Admission of reserved-category candidates will be done as per the Government of India notification.
Since this is a rolling advertisement, candidates may apply for Ph.D. admission throughout the year. Processing of applications will be done at least quarterly by each academic unit; unprocessed applications, if any, will remain valid till the end of the next quarter.
Candidates should carefully read the eligibility criteria as available in the Information Brochure before applying for the programme. Since all the applications will be screened/shortlisted on the basis of data submitted by the candidates in the online application form, the candidates must satisfy themselves of their suitability for programme to which they are applying. If at any stage, the candidate is found to have furnished false or wrong data/information, their candidature/admission will be rejected/cancelled.
Once submitted successfully, the Application cannot be altered/resubmitted under any circumstances. Further, no request with respect to making changes in any data/particulars entered by the candidate in the Online Application will be entertained. Therefore, please keep all data/information ready before you start filling up the Application Online. Please note that a candidate should submit only one application. Duplicate applications will be summarily rejected and no refund will be processed.
Applicants are required to apply online only. The Application fee (Non-refundable) is Rs.1000/- for Unreserved/OBC/EWS/Transgender candidates and Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PwD/Women candidates.
